The San Diego Women’s Chorus would not be the organization that we are today without the vision and leadership of our beloved founder, Dr. Cynthia Lawrence. A long-time community activist, Cynthia established the chorus in 1987 with 14 members who sang around a piano in her living room.
In conjunction with Cynthia’s 81st birthday celebration, SDWC created a new fund- The Dr. Cynthia Lawrence Founder’s Fund – to honor her deep and lasting legacy. Launched with a generous $10,000 matching gift from two of Cynthia’s close friends, any contributions made to the Dr. Cynthia Lawrence Founder’s Fund will be matched, dollar for dollar, up to $10,000.
Cynthia’s vision was to make social change through music, and she did this by building our chorus with a rich commitment to women’s creativity, equality, diversity, and love. She believed in the power of music to affect positive change in ourselves, our community, and the world at large.
Money in the fund will be devoted to expanding the reach and impact of the chorus by funding high-impact activities that raise our visibility and allow us to reach new audiences; and engaging in additional outreach and efforts to ensure that diverse voices are present and active within our chorus.
We invite you to consider making a donation to the Dr. Cynthia Lawrence Founder’s Fund to maximize the impact of your donation.
