In a world where too often the voices of the marginalized and less empowered are silenced, in their Spring 2018 production, Voices: Stronger than Silence. Louder Than Hate, the San Diego Women’s Chorus will showcase music from the perspectives of many different human experiences. A powerful, inspiring program that weaves together music representing the tapestry of the human experience from around the globe, the San Diego Women’s Chorus once again demonstrates why they are one of San Diego’s premier vocal ensembles with a strong commitment to their mission to inspire creativity, diversity and social action. Voices reminds us that sharing our stories is a powerful tool against oppression and hate and allows for a greater understanding of humanity.
Incorporating songs about refugees, Native Americans, anti-war protestors, a trans man discovering who he is, those fighting for civil rights, and self-discovery, Voices captures the experiences that make us all different, yet bring us together, building our own personal legacies. Voices features songs by folk activists Pete Seeger, Holly Near, music from the popular Broadway shows “Hamilton” and “Fun Home,” pop pieces by Sara Bareilles, Lady Gaga, Cyndi Lauper, and Rachel Platten, and beautiful choral compositions highlighting experiences in parts of the world like Appalachia and Brazil.
