Join SDWC for two unforgettable evenings filled with a blend of harmonious vocals, heartfelt lyrics, and inspiring performances. San Diego Women’s Chorus is proud to present our Spring 2024 concerts, In Harmony. The concerts will take place on Saturday, May 18th at 7:00 pm and Sunday, May 19th at 4:00 pm at Hoover High School’s state-of-the-art Performing Arts Complex in City Heights.
In Harmony is a celebration of the extraordinary power of music to bring people together. Throughout the concert, the audience will be taken on a soul-stirring journey as SDWC delivers a captivating selection of songs. Though different in many ways, the songs represent a variety of genres and share the theme of unity and community.
“Music has a profound impact on fostering connections and building bridges,” said Kathleen Hansen, Artistic Director of the San Diego Women’s Chorus. “Through In Harmony, we hope to spread a message of love, acceptance, and solidarity, reminding everyone of the incredible bonds that can be shared through song.”
Song Selection
With music carefully curated to convey themes of unity and action, In Harmony promises to resonate with audiences of all ages and backgrounds. From the poignant message of acceptance in Cyndi Lauper’s “True Colors,” to Twisted Sister’s anthem for the downtrodden, “We’re Not Gonna Take It,” audiences will hear familiar songs performed with the passion and voice that define the San Diego Women’s Chorus. Additional popular songs include Nina Simone’s “Feelin’ Good,” a song about resilience and liberation, and “Come Alive” from The Greatest Showman, a stirring invitation to wake up, do something, and to live life with meaning.
No SDWC show would be complete without songs written to inspire all of us to take action in our communities. These include “Lead With Love” by vocal activist Melanie DeMore, “No Nos Moverán,” the activist anthem derived from the black spiritual “We Shall Not Be Moved,” and Latin Grammy-nominated Gina Chavez’ powerful song, “She Persisted.” Also included in SDWC’s Spring 2024 concert is the newly-penned “Disenfranchised,” an original choral work by Elizabeth Alexander, which takes a direct look at the insidious, never-ending cycle of voter suppression.
Many more songs, both familiar and new to audience members, will round-out the song list for In Harmony, a testament to the true power of togetherness.
