On February 10th, 2024, SDWC presented a spectacular member-led cabaret entitled Star-Crossed: Tempting Fate. The theme of the evening was love in all its many forms, and SDWC definitely felt the love from members and the audience.
The cabaret was a successful fundraiser for SDWC. The organization’s fundraising leadership had a goal of raising funds for the organization’s upcoming participation in the 2024 GALA Festival. Funds were generated from ticket sales and donations.
Members sang a range of songs that celebrated and explored the many sides of love.
Some of the songs performed were pop favorites; Lovefool (The Cardigans), Major Tom (Peter Schilling), As the World Caves In (Matt Maltese), Galileo (Indigo Girls), Something About Her (Steven Sanchez), and It Doesn’t Matter Anymore (Linda Ronstadt).
Broadway fans were wooed with several songs, including Your Daddy’s Son (Ragtime), Agony (Into the Woods), Somewhere That’s Green (Little Shop of Horrors), With You (Ghost the Musical), I’ve Decided to Marry You (A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder), and First Burn (Hamilton). There was also an opera piece, Barcarolle from Les contes d’Hoffmann, and a Disney set from Mulan.
The show included a performance of indie folk song Tiger Mountain Peasant Song (Fleet Foxes), and I’m Not Waiting by Broadway composer Andrew Lippa. Movie fans enjoyed a song from The Greatest Showman, Rewrite the Stars, and Always Remember Us This Way from A Star is Born. And although the group is full of talented singers, the lip synced dance performance of If I Can’t Have You (by Shawn Mendes) performed by Angel Dick might just have stolen the show.
While the performers dazzled onstage, the audience enjoyed delicious snacks and drinks and a chance to purchase some fun items from our lobby.
Thank you to all who attended San Diego Women’s Chorus’ Star-Crossed cabaret and supported us on this fun evening together!
